Stair Master, part 2

I recently posted some pics of our ghastly back stairway and back door area.  To re-cap, this is what we’ve been looking at since we bought the house over 3 months ago:

Back Hallway Before 1

I thought I’d share a few progress pics as we move toward making the back stairs look more like this:

Back Hallway Mood BoardSo far, we’ve done extensive wall repair (which we hadn’t originally planned to do…but it really needed to get done!) and primed the heck out of the space.  Now it looks mostly like a giant snow cave!

But we’re busily making plans for the next few steps, including installing this vinyl tile we picked up from Home Depot along with and this lovely hook rack:

We’re also trying to figure out what to do about the lighting situation.  Currently there is no real light in the back hall.  You can see from the first pic that the previous owner had installed a very simple battery-operated push light, which isn’t horrible but definitely looks temporary.  I’m researching some options for better-looking battery-operated sconces, and am considering adding two of them.  We’ll definitely need some kind of light when we first come in the door!

That’s the progress so far.  I’ll keep you posted!

Cheers,

G

  1. Even just primed, it’s looking so great! I can’t wait to see it finished! It’s going to be gorgeous.
Battery powered sconces, how clever. We have sconces that plug in. Less than ideal, but you work with what you’ve got.

I welcome your feedback, ideas, and comments!
